Render, brick, weatherboard and cladding prepared and coated to survive Canberra frosts and summer sun.
Home / Residential painting / Exterior painting
Canberra is hard on exterior paint. Frosts through winter, dry heat and strong UV through summer, and a big daily temperature swing in between. Coatings that would last a decade elsewhere fail early here if the surface underneath was not prepared or the wrong system was specified.
We assess the substrate before quoting: what it is made of, what is currently on it, whether it is sound, and where water is getting in. That determines the preparation, the primer and the topcoat, and it is why our quotes name the products rather than just promising two coats.
Roofs are handled separately. If yours needs attention at the same time, see roof painting.
Whole elevations or specific problem areas, quoted the same way either time.
Cracks raked out and filled, chalky or powdery surfaces stabilised with the right sealer, then a flexible exterior membrane over the top.
Loose and flaking paint removed back to a sound edge, bare timber primed, and gaps sealed before the finish coats go on.
The first surfaces to fail and the easiest to skip. Sanded, treated for rust or rot where present, and coated properly.
Frames, sills, thresholds and front doors, prepared and finished so they seal properly and still open in summer.
Panel lift and tilt doors, sheds, carports and pergolas brought back to match the house rather than left mismatched.
Rust treatment, timber repairs, re-sealing around penetrations and flashings, so the coating is not covering an active problem.
Most exterior repaints we are called out to fix failed for one of four reasons, all of them preventable.
Timber, render and metal all need the right primer. Topcoat straight onto bare substrate lifts within a couple of seasons.
New coating is only as sound as what is beneath it. Failing paint is removed back to a stable edge, not sealed in.
If water is entering behind the coating, painting traps it. We find the source and deal with it before quoting the paint.
Spread rate matters. We apply the film thickness the manufacturer specifies, which is what the warranty actually depends on.
